TRUE RED - STUCK ON THE STELVIO Northern Italy. Alpine roads. Two eye-catching MX-5 Roadsters, their engines growling with anticipation. The plan? The ambition? A thrilling open-top Sunday, carving through the legendary Strada del Passo dello Stelvio (road through the Stelvio Pass), destination—Lake Garda. The previous night’s heavy rain had cleared, revealing crisp September skies. With roofs down, throttles open, and spirits high, we powered towards the world-class Stelvio Pass, a masterpiece of engineering with 48 tight switchbacks leading to the summit.
Each turn delivered exhilarating mountain views, the perfect fusion of machine and landscape. And then, without warning—snow. Heavy, sudden, relentless. By hairpin 34, it was all over. The road, once a thrilling ribbon of tarmac, vanished beneath an unforgiving grey-white sheet. True Red, once a streak of fire against Alpine green, now sat motionless, an uncertain grip on ice. The tires spun. The second MX-5 halted behind, equally trapped. No escape. No grip. Just the eerie silence of a winter that arrived in an instant. The picture says it all! It’s Beautiful, isn’t it?! Grrrr!!
