As evening approached, this setting sun emerged behind dark, rain-heavy clouds creating a fiery orange canopy over the shadowy lands below. The view towards the distant North Pennine moors in Northumberland are seen from the village of Coundon, Bishop Auckland looking over towards the Wear Valley, and the villages of Binchester (the site of an early Roman settlement) and Willington. All are hidden in the gloaming shadows cast beneath the fiery evening glow light.
