The long-eared owl (Asio otus) is typically a night time creature preferring to live in woodland or on scrubby farmland. Yes, he’s a night owl, and like all night owls, they can occasionally be seen in daytime, like this motley-coloured beauty sitting watchfully amongst the grasses. This is a rare daylight sight especially because these birds are masters of camouflage often nestling close to the woodland branches in which they are virtually invisible.
